FOURTH EDITION OF THE VIVA WORLD CUP OFFICIALY INAUGURATED |
|
The official inauguration of the
fourth edition of the VIVA World Cup took place on Monday May 31,
2010 with a ceremony held at the Gozo Stadium. The ceremony took
place in difficult weather conditions due to strong winds. A number
of distinguished guest including Government officials, officials of
the NF-Board, the Gozo Football Association, sponsors and officials
of local football clubs attended the ceremony. The children from Annette Mystic Dancers opened the ceremony with a display, while local singer Deborah C performed songs from her repertoire and the official song of the tournament ‘Enjoy Moments of Gold’ with lyrics by the GFA General secretary Joe Bajada and composed by Mro. Renato Briffa. Gozo’s captain Daniel Bogdanovic and Gozo’s referee Joe Bajada read the athlete’s and official’s oath of loyalty for the tournament. The chairman of the organising committee Dr Joseph Grech delivered the first speech of the evening to welcome all the guest and delegations from the associations competing in this edition of the VIVA World Cup. Other speeches were from the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Councils, Public Consultations and Consumer Affairs Dr. Chris Said, the Treasurer of the NF-Board Mr. Jean Pier Jermoli and the president of the Gozo Football Association Mr. Alvin Grech. The final message was from the Minister for Gozo Hon. Giovanna Debono who also declared the tournament officially open. A common message from all the speakers was addressed to wish fair play during the competition and an invitation to all the guests to have a positive experience during their week stay on the island.
