Gozo FC earned a point in their last match of the first round against Senglea so that they remain in a position to challenge against relegation in the second round.

Gozo seemed more concentrated at the defence and managed to keep a clean sheet after a long series of disappointing results.  Through this approach Senglea’s possession did not produce particular danger towards Gozo’s goal.  At he end the final score was just and satisfied the two sides as Senglea retain their position on the table while Gozo managed to end a run of negative results.

Play was quite balanced during the first period where the two defensive departments were in control of the respective strikers.  As time passed by Senglea started to take some command at the midfield but actions at the two goals were rare.  On 28 minutes Senglea were unlucky when a strike from an angled position by Timmy Thomas hit the woodwork.  Gozo replied two minutes later through a shot from outside the area by John Camilleri was well saved by goalie George Attard.

One minute after the half hour Gozo’s keeper Darren Pace was called to make a difficult save following a direct free kick by Julian Spiteri.  Gozo’s replied arrived minutes later through a free kick by Mark Formosa that was blocked by goalie George Attard.  On 38 minutes an effort by Bjorn Dalli following a solo action missed the target.  Four minutes from the break Senglea’s goalie Attard turned with difficulty in corner a shot cross by Dylan Mercieca and three minutes later an effort by Jason Portelli ended wide.

After the break the visitors came out more aggressive and produced some pressure over Gozo’s rearguard.  On 54 minutes an angled shot by Bjorn Dalli was turned in corner by goalie Darren Pace and from the same corner action an effort by Howard Hughes was cleared off the goalmouth by Frank Debono.  Gozo lost a golden scoring opportunity on 59 minutes.

John Camilleri pressed Senglea’s rearguard and won the ball inside the area but Paul Spiteri incredibly failed to convert into an open goal from close distance.  Four minutes later Gozo’s goalie Pace blocked a dangerous cross by Bjorn Dalli and from the same action a shot by Brady Zerafa ended wide.  On 70 minutes a low shot from outside the area by Brady Zerafa ended wide and
