Victoria Hotspurs prolonged their positive run with a 3-1 win over
SK Victoria Wanderers in the main match of the weekend that pulled a
sizeable crowd to the Gozo Stadium. The Hotspurs paved the way to
the victory with two early goals scored by Ryan Grech and Eric
Nkwankwo. The Wanderers produced their reaction after the break and
managed to reduce the deficit with a goal scored six minutes from
time through substitute Lauran Dimech. However, the Hotspurs
re-established the two goal difference one minute later from a
penalty converted by Martin Hanus.
Main
challengers for the title Ghajnsielem obtained a hard-earned win
over Sannat Lions. The Lions produced the better play during the
first period and lost some very good scoring opportunities. The
Blacks resisted well and scored the only goal of the match after
four minutes of play into the second period through Alex Simoncic.
Sannat were demoralised and Ghajnsielem could have made sure of the
points at an earlier stage of the match.
Xewkija Tigers won the direct clash from the relegation zone against
Kercem Ajax. Xewkija produced the better scoring opportunities of
the match but had to wait until the final stages of the match to
score the goal that decided the issue. Xewkija’s 1-0 win arrived
from a penalty kick scored ten minutes form time by Basil Chibueze.
Kercem also ended the match with a player less six minutes form time
when Daniel Sakic was sent off for a second yellow card.

In
the matches from the lower category St Lawrence Spurs obtained a 2-1
win over Oratory Youths while Xaghra United registered a 4-0 win
over Zebbug Rovers.
Oratory were punished for missing some good chances during their
difficult match against the leaders. St Lawrence opened the score
on 19 minutes through Gothard Conti but Oratory levelled the score
on 53 minutes through Kevin Grech. Paul Anthony Attard scored the
decisive goal six minutes from time.
Xaghra United dominated the match against Zebbug Rovers especially
as Zebbug were reduced to ten players when Mario Calleja sent off on
14 minutes. The Blues scored all the four goals of the match after
the break. Philip Attard opened the score and substitute Anthony
Bajada doubled the score. Joseph Mercieca increased the score and
an own goal by Josmar Farrugia sealed the issue for Xaghra.
