MUNXAR END THE CAMPAIGN ON A POSITIVE NOTE

     Zebbug Rovers and Munxar Falcons shared the spoils in an entertaining match which produced six goals.  Both Zebbug and Munxar did not have any pressure to obtain points, although Munxar needed at least a point to make sure of avoiding the bottom place on the table.  With this result the Falcons may sure of ending at the fifth place on the final table.  The match was well contested and the final result was just.

The two sides came out very aggressive and the match produced five goals and other good scoring opportunities especially during the first half hour of play.  Munxar opened the score in the 6^th minute through an angled shot by Takam Boudouin following a personal action. 

The Rovers had an immediate reaction and two minutes later Basil Chibueze levelled the score with a good shot following a cross by Alvin Grech. 

 Zebbug kept insisting and minutes later Munxar’s goalie Adrian Parnis save dwith difficulty an attempt by Jospeh Cordina. 

In the 13^th minute a free kick by Basil Chibueze just missed the target and one minute later a long ranged shot by Chris Buttigieg was deflected in corner.  From the resultant corner action a lob by Joe Hili was cleared off the line by Takam Boudouin.

The following corner action resulted in a melee at Munxar’s goalmouth and defender Matthew Debrincat handled the ball on the line following an attempt by Chibueze.  The referee ordered a penalty and showed the red card to Munxar’s Debrincat. 

Joseph Cordina converted his shot from the spot kick and put his side in the lead.  However, the Falcons were not demoralised.  They levelled the score in the 20^th minute through Mario Azzopardi who placed in goal with a low shot following a personal action. 

 Five minutes later the referee awarded a penalty to Munxar when Alvin Grech handled the ball in a contrast with Takam Boudouin and Patrick Falzon made it 3-2 for his side with his shot form the penalty kick.  Seconds from half time Munxar’s Mario Azzopardi could have increased the lead for his side but he concluded baldy from an ideal position after receiving from Patrick Falzon.

          After the break Zebbug took advantage of the extra player on the field and dominated the match.  In the 54^th minute a lob by Chris Buttigieg hit the crossbar.  Minutes later Munxar’s goalie Adrian Parnis saved with difficulty in corner an attempt by Franco Magrin.  Zebbug’s efforts were rewarded in the 67^th minute when Charlton Borg scored the equaliser with a fine header following a corner by Chris Buttigieg. 

      Zebbug kept insisting but in the 86^th minute they had Philip Cardona sent off for a foul on Joseph Agius.  However, one minute later the Rovers could have took the lead but Basil Chibueze concluded just wide from an ideal position after receiving an inviting pass by Joseph Cordina.  The Falcons replied with a lob by Takam Boudouin that just missed the target.
