Munxar Falcons and Oratory Youths shared the spoils in a goalless draw so that with the point obtained the Youths managed to defend their third spot on the table. This last match of the campaign for the two sides was a direct clash for the final placing on the table where Munxar were seeking to obtain a victory and move above the same Oratory on the final standings. However, Oratory produced a prudent match and defended their area until the final whistle. Oratory’s goalie Franklin Vella ended up the protagonist for his side with an excellent save following a strike by William Cassar seconds from the final whistle. The seemed determined to achieve their objective from the very beginning but Oratory’s rearguard, although with a number of regular players missing, maintained composure and kept danger away from their area. Oratory’s goalie Franklin Vella was called to make his first serious intervention on 38 minutes following a low shot by Christian Micallef. Oratory replied in the following action through a free kick by Francesco Cini that missed the target. Seconds from half time Munxar were again dangerous through a free kick by Matthew Debrincat that was saved in corner by goalie Vella. Munxar maintained command of play after the resumptions and were unlucky on 47 minutes when an effort by Christian Micallef hit the woodwork. Two minutes later Oratory were dangerous through an attempt by Alex Sacco that was well saved in corner by goalie Daniel Curmi. From the same corner kick by Francesco Cini Derek Bugeja’s header was saved by Munxar’s goalie. On 55 minutes Munxar’s Daniel Pace incredibly concluded over the crossbar an inviting pass by William Cassar. The same Cassar produced another fine move on the right flank on 80 minutes but substitute Donald Borg incredibly failed to connect from close distance. Two minutes later Oratory’s Francesco Cini released substitute Francisco Mumford in the area but the latter hesitated and missed the moment to conclude in goal. Munxar could have scored a dramatic goal in the third minute of stoppage time when an excellent shot by William Cassar following a corner action was saved with a spectacular intervention by goalie Franklin Vella.
