Oratory Youths registered their third win in the campaign over Gharb Rangers with the least possible effort so that they reached Munxar Falcons and Zebbug Rovers on the third spot on the table. The Youths were dominant throughout the match and although they maintained a slow rhythm Gharb were only in contention until Oratory scored the first goal. Oratory practically made sure of the three points with goals scored in the second period. For this match Gharb had Jonathan Apap missing due to suspension. Oratory’s veteran striker Dione Lautier regained leadership on the top-scorer table as he extended his tally to fourteen goals. The Youths took command of play from the very beginning but found some difficulty to create danger during the first half hour. One minute after the half hour Oratory were dangerous through a low cross by Francesco Cini and defender Harry Cassar risked an own goal in his attempt to clear danger. One minute later a header by Dione Lautier form a cross by Francesco Cini ended wide. On 34 minute an effort by Kevin Grech hit the woodwork. Oratory opened the score one minute later through a cross-shot by Andrew Zammit that surprised goalie Mario Agius. On 39 minutes Oratory’s Dione Lautier came face to face with Gharb’s goalkeeper but failed to conclude from a good position. Gharb’s opportunity to level the score arrived on 42 minutes through a low shot by Christian Farrugia that ended wide. After the resumption Oratory tried to control their lead. On 57 minutes the Youths could have doubled the score but George Caruana concluded badly from an ideal position after receiving from Dione Lautier. Two minutes later Gharb went very closet o level the score when Christian Farrugia entered Oratory’s area with a personal action but his weak shot was neutralized with some difficulty by goalie Elliot Fenech. Oratory increased their lead on 64 minutes through a header by Dione Lautier following a cross from the left flank by Andrew Zammit. One minute later Gharb’s Christian Farrugia had an angled shot that ended wide. The score became 3-0 on 66 minutes with another goal by Dione Lautier who concluded from close distance a cross from the right by Marvin Grech. On 70 minutes Lautier lifted over the crossbar an inviting pass by Andrew Zammit. Oratory added another goal three minutes later. Francesco Cini received a ball in the area, controlled well and fired in goal from a good position. In the 78th minute the same Cini could have scored another goal but his attempt following a move by Alex Sacco that was cleared off the line in corner by defender Harry Cassar. Referee: Joe Agius |
