Zebbug Rovers reached Munxar Falcons at the third spot on the table with three points obtained form a victory over Qala St Joseph.  It was a deserved win for Zebbug.  They held command of play throughout the encounter as their goalkeeper was kept out of the action for long periods.  Despite Zebbug’s territorial supremacy Qala managed to keep a clean sheet during the first period but suffered two goals at an early stage of the second half swhich compromised their aim to earn at least a point.

Zebbug created their first scoring opportunity after five minutes of play through an angled shot by Frank Attard that ended wide.  On 12 minutes an effort by Sylvan Galea missed the target and on the half hour of play substitute Christian Cassar unmarked Frank Attard but the latter hesitated when he was face to face with the goalkeeper.  Seconds from half time Qala’s goalie Kenny Grima was called to make a difficult save to deny Frank Attard from opening the score, following a cross by Sylvan Galea.

After the break the Rovers maintained pressure over their opponents and opened the score after just two minutes of play through a header by Sylvan Galea following a free kick by Joe Hili.  Zebbug doubled the score five minutes later.  Frank Attard entered the area from the right flank and placed past goalie Kenny Grima with a low angled shot.  On 64 minutes a lob by Sylvan Galea ended just high and one minute later goalie Kenny Grima made a good save to deflect on the crossbar another effort by Galea.  Zebbug increased their lead in the 68th minute with another goal by Sylvan Galea who netted easily with a low shot from close distance.  The same Glaea could have added another goal two minutes later but his attempt was neutralized by goalie Kenny Grima.  The same goalkeeper was called to make another difficult save to turn in corner an effort by Franco Magrin on 76 minutes.  The score became 4-0 for Zebbug four minutes later through a direct free kick by Joe Hili.  Qala scored their consolation goal on 84 minutes through a direct free kick by Patrick Falzon but Zebbug sealed the issue with a fifth goal scored four minutes from time when a cross from the right by Sylvan Galea changed direction into an open goal as it hit defender Paul James Mizzi.
