  St Lawrence obtained three points as expected from their match against bottom placed Gharb Rangers so that they are now just one win away from winning promotion.  This was St Lawrence’s third win over Gharb in the championship.  The Spurs paved the way to the victory with a goal scored just after the half hour of play and made sure with other goals scored after the break. Gharb remained in contention until the Saints opened the score so that they were demoralized for the rest of the encounter.

  Play took place mainly in the midfield during the first half hour of play as the Spurs found it difficult to convert their territorial supremacy into good scoring opportunities.  The closest St Lawrence went to open the score was in the 24th minute when a low shot from the edge of the area by Jonathan Micallef ended just wide.  St Lawrence opened the score in the 32nd minute through a header by Jonathan Micallef from a cross by Gothard Conti that surprised goalie Mario Agius.  One minute later an effort by Gothard Conti just missed the target.

  The Saints doubled the score after only two minutes of play into the second period.  Jonathan Micallef released Shaun Muscat in the area and the latter placed easily in goal from close distance.  The score became 3-0 six minutes later through a low shot by Jonathan Micallef following a solo action.  Gharb’s goalie Mario Agius made three difficult interventions between the 57th minute and the 74th minute by turning in corner three good attempts by player-coach Gothard Conti.  St Lawrence increased the score on 78 minutes through an angled shot by substitute Neville Mercieca following a cross from the right flank that ended at the top corner of the net.  In the remaining minutes the match lost much of its interest as St Lawrence administered their comfortable lead until the final whistle.
