SK VICTORIA WANDERERS WIN DIRECT CLASH

(I Adesina 57’; M Buttigieg 72’; A Adesina 82’)

    This was a direct clash between two teams who were occupying the top of the table before this match. SK Victoria Wanderers not only took revenge for the defeat conceded against St Lawrence Spurs in the first round, but also took sole leadership for the first time in the campaign. It was a deserved victory for the Wanderers. They saw more of the ball throughout the match and dominated during the second period. St Lawrence were very prudent during the first half, but became demoralised as they suffered the first goal.

    The Wanderers came out more aggressive were dangerous with efforts by Chris Sciortino, Ige Adesina and Mark Buttigeig. In the 17^th minute goalie Samuel Micallef saved a good header by Mark Buttigieg. The Spurs had their best patch of play near the end of the first half and went close to scoring through efforts by Adalberto Goncalves and Jonathan Micallef.

    Victoria opened the score in the 57^th minute through an excellent strike from outside the area by Ige Adesina athat ended out of goalie’s Samuel Micallef reach. Minutes later a lob by the same Adesina ended just wide and in he 59^th minute goalie Samuel Micallef was called to make a difficult save following an attempt by Ajibade Adesina.

    The Spurs replied in the 69^th minute through an effort by substitute Renzo Formosa that was well blocked by goalie Tony Debrincat. Victoria doubled the score in the 72^nd minute. An attempt from outside the area by Chris Sciortino was deflected on the crossbar by goalie Samuel Micallef and from the resultant corner Mark Buttigieg headed in goal.

    The Wanderers sealed the issue with a third goal scored in the 82^nd minute through Ajibade Adesina who concluded a through pass by Ige Adesina. In the dying moments St Lawrence’s goalie Samuel Micallef made a fine save to deny Ige Adesina from scoring the fourth goal.
