GHARB RANGERS FC ......

SK Victoria Wanderers inflicted another heavy defeat to Gharb Rangers and with the three points obtained they consolidated their leadership on the table. Victoria’s large victory matured with six goals scored after the break. The citizens dominated over their opponents throughout the ninety minutes. However, Gharb managed to offer some stiff resistance during the first half but were demoralised for the second part of the match.

Gharb were in good shape during the first phases and in the 4th minute a free kick by Roy Vella was saved with some difficulty by goalie Marlon Mercieca. The Wanderers started to take command of play as time passed by and in the 14th minute an effort by Ajibade Adesina was blocked by goalie Matthew Vella. Victoria opened the score in the 21st minute through Ajibade Adesina who entered the area, dribbled the goalkeeper and placed in goal from an angled position. Two minutes later the citizens doubled the score through Ige Adesina who concluded a personal action with a low shot. Gharb’s best opportunity to reduce the arrears arrived in the 43rd minute when a cross-shot by Abdul Mutalib was cleared from the goalmouth by Simon Gatt.

The Wanderers dominated after the resumption. They increased the score in the 56th minute through Joseph Refalo’s close ranged header following a corner action. Two minutes later it was Ige Adesina who made it 4-0 following a typical solo effort and in the 65th minute Joseph Refalo was unlucky when the ball bounced in front of an open goal and ended high following a lob from outside the area. Victoria’s substitute Lauran Dimech made the score 5-0 with a low shot to conclude a pass by Ige Adesina and the same Adesina registered his personal hat trick with a goal scored in the 81st minute. Frank Buttigieg increased the score in the 85th minute with a fine shot from outside the area and Chris Sciortino sealed the issue with a goal scored in the 90th minute.  Referee:         Joe Agius
