Munxar Falcons turned a defeat into a victory in their match against Oratory Youths and registered their first win in the campaign. With this result the Falcons moved away from the bottom of the table, while Oratory remain the only team without a victory in the campaign. It was a deserved win for Munxar who produced pressure over their opponents throughout the second period.
Oratory had a better start. Andrew Zammit concluded badly from a good position in the early stages, but the Youths opened the score in the 8th minute through a low shot by Ishaku Umoru. Munxar managed to recover the difficult moment and levelled the score in the 21st minute through a lob by Baudouin Takam over goalie Joel Portelli. The Youths regained the lead four minutes later. Goalie Portelli cleared danger from his area, Munxar’s rearguard hesitated to apply the offside and Andrew Zammit took advantage and lobbed over goalie Daniel Curmi. Minutes later Munxar replied with an effort by Christian Micallef that ended just high. On the half hour the Youths were unlucky when a low shot by Alex Sacco hit the post. In the 33rd minute Oratory’s George Louis Zammit entered the area, dribbled the goalkeeper but hesitated to conclude so that the defence managed to clear the danger.
Munxar tried to recover the score after the break and in the 47th minute a header by Mario Azzopardi from a corner action was cleared off the fatal line and one minute later a long ranged shot by Robert Said missed the target. In the 52nd minute a header by Takam was turned in corner by goalie Portelli. Munxar were rewarded for their efforts and levelled the score in the 73rd minute through Patrick Falzon, who placed in goal following a pass by substitute Daniel Pace. In the 82nd minute Munxar could have taken the lead but an effort by Takam was cleared in corner by substitute Charles Xuereb, with the goalkeeper beaten. Munxar continued to be the better side and in the 87th minute the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Mario Azzopardi and Patrick Falzon converted from the spot kick. Munxar’s victory could have ended with a larger score in the dying moments but efforts by Chris Debrincat and Takam just missed the target. Referee: Gordon Barbara |
