SPRITE 2ND DIVISION LEAGUE

GHARB AND MUNXAR REPEAT THE RESULT OF THE FIRST ROUND

GHARB RANGERS FC ...... (M Chika 55’)

MUNXAR FALCONS FC ...... (T Boudouin 69’)

Gharb Rangers and Munxar Falcons shared the spoils in a draw of two goals so that they repeated the result of their match of the first round. The match was well contested as the two sides are with the same points on the table and are both aiming to avoid the bottom place on the table. At the end the final score was just as neither side managed to take the upper hand over the opponent.

The Rangers held the initiative of play for long stretches during the first period. Munxar’s rearguard was well deployed and goalie Adrian Parnis was not called to make difficult saves, so that the match did not produce any dangerous action in the first half hour of play.

The Falcons went close to scoring in the 31st minute through an angled shot by Patrick Falzon that ended just over the crossbar while Gharb replied two minutes later through a free kick by Stephen Apap that was well blocked by goalie Parnis.

In the dying moments of the first half Munxar’s goalie Parnis blocked on Michael Chika while Gharb’s goalkeeper Matthew Vella saved a shot from outside the area by Patrick Falzon.

Munxar took advantage of the wind blowing in their favour after the break, going close to scoring through a shot by Joseph Calleja that was clear off the goalmouth by Harry Cassar. Gharb opened the score in the 55th minute. Michael Chika won a tussle just outside the area and placed in goal with a low shot.

The Falcons had a good reaction and levelled the score in the 64th minute through Takam Boudouin’s low shot following a mishap at Gharb’s rearguard. Minutes later a shot by Gharb’s Anthony Camilleri from a corner action ended just over the crossbar.

In the final stages the two teams insisted to obtain the victory, but the strikers were well controlled by the respective defenders. Gharb had the best scoring opportunity to win the points at stake in the 89th minute but Anthony Camilleri’s shot from a central position, following a corner action, ended over the crossbar.
