Oratory Youths obtained three deserved points from their match against Qala St Joseph and retained their possibility to keep their challenge for the third spot.  With this result the Youths ended the second round on a positive note.  Oratory produced the better scoring opportunities and were much more effective than their opponents in attack.  Veteran striker Dione Lautier was once again the protagonist for his side by scoring a brace. With these goals Lautier took command of the top scorer table for the lower category with eleven goals, one more than St Lawrence’s player-coach Gothard Conti.

Play was quite balanced in the early stages but as time passed by the Youths became more dangerous.  Oratory opened the score on 17 minutes through a header by Dione Lautier from a cross by Francesco Cini.  Three minutes later Oratory could have doubled the score but a low shot by Andrew Zammit was saved in corner with difficulty by goalie Kenny Grima.  The Saints replied on 22 minutes when a header by Christian Portelli from a corner action was cleared off the line by Alex Sacco.

One minute later a direct free kick by the same Portelli ended just high and on 25 minutes a direct free kick by Den is Abela was saved by Oratory’s goalie Elliot Fenech.  One minute later Oratory had a direct free kick by Andrew Zammit was saved with difficulty in corner by goalie Kenny Grima.  The Youths doubled the score just before the half hour of play through a low shot by Dione Lautier following a through pass by Francesco Cini.  On 33 minutes an attempt by Qala’s Christian Portelli was blocked by goalie Elliot Fenech.  Five minute from the break a direct free kick by Alex Sacco was saved by Qal’s goalie and in the second minute of stoppage time before the break Oratory’s Francesco Cini had a low shot from a personal action that ended wide.

The Maroons could have reduced the deficit after five minutes of play into the second period.  Patrick Falzon was floored in the area by Chris Attard, the referee awarded a penalty but goalie Elliot Fenech saved Christian Portelli’s shot from the spot kick.  The Saints were punished for the missed chance three minutes later when Oratory increased their lead through a low strike by Alex Sacco following a personal action.

Qala were dangerous on 73 minutes through a long ranged shot by Marcel Meilak that was well saved by goalie Elliot Fenech.  Three minutes later Qala’s goalie Kenny Grima was called to make a good save following a low shot by Marvin Grech following a personal action.  Seven minutes later Oratory’s Francesco Cini had a goal disallowed for an offside position of George Caruana.  Qala scored their consolation goal in the following action.  Christian Portelli entered the area, had his low shot partially saved by goalie Fenech and from the rebound John Rapa lobbed into an open goal from outside the area.  The Youths however were not demoralized and controlled play until the final whistle.
