Munxcar falcons turned a defeat into a victory in their match against Gharb Rangers with three goals scored after the break.  With the three points obtained the Falcons remain close to the top of the table and are now the current outsiders to challneg for promotion.  It was a deserved win for Munxar, especially when considering that they suffered an early set-back and ended the first half with a one goal deficit.  However, they levelled the score early into the second period, dominated the rest of the match and scored two more goals to make sure of the points.  On the other hand the Rangers disappointed especially because they were coming from a victory in the previous match and had the result in the favour for half of the match.  This was also the last match of the first round for the two sides.

Gharb could not have had a better start.  On the 3rd minute Munxar’s Anthony Camilleri committed an own goal when he headed past his goalkeeper a long ranged free kick by Saviour Cassar.  Munxar had a good reaction.  On 9 minutes Pierre Said converted in goal a low shot by Mario Azzopardi but the goal was disallowed for an offside infringement.  In the 21st minute an effort by Joseph Mizzi was blocked by goalie John Scerri and from the resultant action a close ranged effort by Pierre Said was blocked in corner.  Munxar were again dangerous in the 28th minute but a shot by Donald Borg ended wide.  One minute later Gharb could have doubled the score but a long ranged lob by Clayton Hili was deflected by goalie Daniel Curmi on the post.  One minute after the half hour of play an attempt by Joseph Mizzi missed the target and Gharb replied on 42 minutes through a low shot by Jonathan Apap that ended inches wide.  In the 45th minute goalie John Scerri was called to make another good save following a low shot by Joseph Calleja and one minute later a header by Mario Azzopardi following a deflection by the defence hit the post.  The same Azzopardi had another effort second before the half time whistle that ended wide.

After the resumption the Falcons came out more aggressive and scored the equaliser after only three minutes into the second period.  Joseph Cordina cross from the left flank and Joseph Mizzi placed in goal with a fine shot. Gharb were demoralised and Munxar took the lead seven minutes later when a corner kick by Joseph Cordina surprised the goalkeeper and the ball ended in goal.  In the 61st minute Gharb’s defender Ruben Scicluna cleared in corner an interesting effort by Mario Azzopardi.  Gharb had their best opportunity to level the score minutes later but David Scerri concluded wide from an ideal position a cross from the right by Clayton Hili.  In the 73rd minute an effort by substitute Donald Borg was blocked in corner and later a long ranged lob by Daniel Pace was neutralised by goalie John Scerri.  Munxar practically sealed the issue on 76 minutes when Gharb’s defender Hellios Grech committed an own goal in an attempt to clear off Donald Borg an low cross from the flank by Mario Azzoaprdi.
