SK Victoria Wanderers registered their first victory in the campaign in their direct clash against leaders Gharb Rangers. The Wanderers recovered from the defeat conceded in their previous match. In this match Victoria had Ajibade Adesina for the first time this season in their starting line up, while Simon Gatt and Ige Adesina were making a return after suspension. The three players were influential in Victoria’s victory, although the protagonist of the match was Ajibade Adesina who scored a hat-trick. On the other hand Gharb were too prudent and rarely created danger to Victoria’s rearguard.

Play was quite balanced during the first phases of the match. However, the Wanderers seemed more adventurous and created more danger than their opponents. An effort by Frank Buttigieg ended high while a Gharb’s goalie Matthew Vella turned in corner with difficulty a shot by Chris Sciortino. From the resultant free kick Mark Buttigieg’s header ened over the crossbar.

Victoria opened the score in the 29th minute. Ige Adesina was released in the area by Simon Gatt and the former placed in goal with a low shot. Minutes later Gharb’s denied Joseph Vella from scoring Victoria’s second goal and in an immediate reply by the Rangers Abdul Mutalib’s header form a corner action ended over high. Seconds from half time Victoria’s Ige Adesina incredibly concluded wide from an ideal position following a through ass by Simon Gatt.

The citizens maintained their momentum after the break and justified their superiority over their opponents in this match. They doubled the score in the 50th minute, through Ajibade Adesina’s close ranged header following a cross from the left by Ige Adesina. Three minutes later the score became 0-3 with a goal by Frank Buttigieg with a shot from the edge of the area.

Ajibade Adesina scored two goals in the space of one minute to register a personal hat-trick. In the 65th minute the Nigerian striker headed in goal from a corner kick by Joseph Vella and one minute later the same player lobbed over goalie Vella to conclude a personal action. The score became 0-6 in the 74th minute. Ajibade Adesina entered the area but was floored by substitute Stephan Azzopardi, but Frank Buttigieg took the advantage and placed into an empty goal.

In the dying moments Gharb’s goalie Matthew Vella denied Ige Adesina from adding other goals when he turned in corner a well taken free kick and on another occasion he blocked a close ranged attempt by the Nigerian striker.
