   Xaghra United as expected obtained full points from their match against Zebbug Rovers and ended the first round at the top of the table together with St Lawrence Spurs.  The victory was well deserved as they dictated matters throughout the ninety minutes.  With this result Xaghra also recovered from the defeat conceded in their previous match against St Lawrence Spurs.  On the other hand Zebbug lacked determination in this match as they practically threw the towel as soon as they conceded the first goal.

   The Blues took command of play from the early stages but Zebbug managed to keep danger away from their area.  In the 13^th minute Zebbug’s goalkeeper Noel Saliba made a good intervention to block a deflection by Shaun Sultana following an effort by Johann Attard.  On 19 minute Xaghra’s Michael Bezzina had a strike from outside the area that ended high.  The Blues opened the score one minute from half time.  Goalie Noel Saliba deflected a cross form the right by Michael Bezzina but the ball hit central defender Gabriel Sillato and ended into an open goal.

   Zebbug were demoralised and Xaghra took full command of play for the second period.  They also increase the lead in the 47^th minute through a strike form outside the area by Joann Attard following a pass by Michael Bezzina.  The same Bezzina had a good shot one minute later that just missed the target and in the 51^st minute goalie Saliba made a good save to neutralise a shot by Johann Attard. 

  The Blues were unlucky in the 56^th minute when a header by Josef Galea from a cross by Eman Bugeja hit the post.  Minutes later Bezzina unmarked substitute Joseph Sultana but the latter hesitated and goalie Saliba saved his goal.  In the 71^st minute an effort by Michael Bezzina following a personal action ended wide and minutes later goalie Saliba went out of his area to clear off substitute Joseph Sultana who was entering the area.

     In the 76^th minute substitute Daniel Bartolo concluded in goal from close distance a cross form the other substitute Anthony Bajada to make the score 3-0.  Eight minutes later the same Bartolo incredibly concluded over the crossbar in front of an open goal an inviting pass by Michael Bezzina. 

     In another occasion it was Anthony Bajada who had a good effort well saved by Zebbug’s goalkeeper.  Zebbug could have scored a consolation goal in the dying moments but a shot by Ryan Zammit following a personal action was partially saved by goalie Matthew Vella and from the rebound the same player concluded wide.
