Xaghra United maintained their record of consecutive wins in the campaign in their match against Munxar Falcons. Although the three points obtained were well deserved the victory only arrived with a goal scored nine minutes form time. Xaghra, who had Micahel Bezzina missing due to suspension, found it extremely difficult to produced good scoring opportunities and became erratic when they increased their efforts to open the score. Munxar had a prudent approach in an attempt to win at least a point form this match but at the end it resulted too risky, especially when considering that they play for almost an hour with a player less on the field. As expected Xaghra saw more of the ball and kept some pressure on Munxar’s rearguard. However they found some difficulties to convert their territorial superiority in goal scoring opportunities. Johan Attard was unlucky on 17 minutes when his good effort hit the woodwork. In the 28th minute a direct free kick by Eman Bugeja just missed the target. Munxar suffered a set back on 36 minutes as they ended with a player less on the field. The referee sent Joseph Cordina for an early shower for elbowing signaled by the assistant referee. Although the Falcons had the player les they went closest to scoring before half time. Mario Azzopardi entered the area one minute from the break but his two consecutive attempts were blocked in time by Josef Galea with the goalkeeper beaten. The Blues increased pressure after the break. In the 47th minute a shot from outside the area by Eman Bugeja ended wide. On 55 minutes it was Philip Attard who had an angled shot following a personal action that ended high. Munxar replied one minute later through a good effort by substitute Donald Borg but goalie Matthew Vella was well placed and turned in corner. On the hour of play Munxar’s goalie Daniel Curmi saved well a low shot by Sam Frank Bajada from a free kick by Eman Bugeja. Three minute later an effort by Philip Attard missed the target. |

The same Attard was dangerous in the following action through an angled shot that hit the side of the net and on 70 minutes an overhead kick by Daniel Bartolo following a move by Daniel continued to threaten Munxar’s rearguard from the right flank Attard in the area ended wide. Xaghra’s efforts were rewarded nine minutes from time when Eman Bugeja took a loose ball at the edge of the area and surprised the goalkeeper with a fine strike. Munxar continued to suffer the pressure and in the 86th minute could have doubled the score but an angled shot by substitute Shaun Sultana hit the post. Three minutes later it was goalie Daniel Curmi who denied the other substitute Mark Buhagiar from scoring a second goal for Xaghra with a fine save to block the shot from outside the area.
