St Lawrence Spurs registered their third consecutive win in their match against Qala St. Joseph with three goals scored after the break.  In this match the two sides were aiming for the three points at stake to keep in touch with leaders Xaghra United.

Qala were also looking forward to recover from the defeat conceded in their previous match.  However, St Lawrence maintained their momentum that started since the beginning of the campaign and ended up obtained another convincing victory.  It was a deserved win as the Spurs were well deployed, controlled Qala’s initial pressure but were the better side for the last three –quarters of the macth.

Qala had a better start and produced some pressure over their opponents.  In the initial stages two direct free kicks by Mario Mifsud missed the target.  On the 9th minute an effort by Marcell Meilaq ended just over the cross bar and one minute later an attempt from outside the area by Mario Mifsud also ended just high.

In the 22nd minute goalie Samuel Micallef was well placed to save a direct free kick b y Mario Mifsud.  As time passed by St Lawrence came out more of their defense and started to become more dangerous than their opponents.

Around the half hour an effort by Daniel Micallef following a corner action was well blocked by goalie Kenny Grima.

Minutes later it was Jonathan Micallef who concluded wide from a good position.

Two minutes from half time Qala defender Nathan Portelli blocked on the fatal line a close ranged effort by Shaun Muscat from a corner action and in another occasion Gothard Conti released Jonathan Micallef in the area but the latter concluded badly from an ideal position.

After the break the Saints continued to dictate matters.  They opened the score on 50 minute as goalie Kenny Grima partially saved a direct free kick by Renzo Formosa and from the rebound Jonathan Micallef guided the ball into an open goal.  Qala’s reaction was sterile and on the hour of play goalie Grima turned in corner an angled shot by Jonathan Micallef.  From the resultant corner a header by Laurent Pisani hit the crossbar.  Three minutes later a long ranged attempt by Gothard Conti ended wide.  The Spurs doubled the score on 64 minutes.  Gothard Conti entered the area from the left flank but had his shot stopped by the post.  However, the ball bounced on defender Jonathan Bajada and ended into an open goal.  Qala were shocked and in the 67th minute goalie Grima went out of his position to block on Paul Anthony Attard who entered the area from the flank.  St Lawrence practically sealed the issue six minutes from time.  Once again it was Paul Anthony Attard who produced a fine move from the left flank and from his pass Gothard Conti concluded easily with a tap-in.  In the 89th minute Qala also ended with ten players as Chritian Portelli was sent off for a second yellow card.
