In the first match from the 51st edition of the Division II campaign St. Lawrence Spurs obtained three deserved points from a convincing victory over Munxar Falcons.  Munxar’s success matured with an excellent performance during the second period, where they expressed their superiority and transformed it in goals.  Munxar had a disappointing performance overall as they found it extremely difficult to create danger to their opponents and collapsed after an hour of play.  St. Lawrence’s player coach Gothard Conti and Paul Anthony Attard were the protagonists of the match by scoring a brace each.

Play was quite balanced during the early stages as the two teams were cautious and shared play in the midfield.  Munxar had a good scoring opportunity on 17 minutes from a corner action but Anthony Camilleri’s header ended wide.  The Spurs replied with a good move three minutes later.  Renzo Formosa headed over goalie Daniel Curmi from a long ranged free kick by Laurent Pisani but Anthony Camilleri cleared off the line.  From the resultant action the ball once again arrived to an unmarked Formosa but the Spurs midfielder concluded high.  However, St Lawrence opened the score on the half hour.  Christopher Cauchi entered the area in a fast break on the left flank and from his low pass Gothard Conti guided the ball into an open goal.

Munxar came out more determined for the second period and in the first minute of play an effort by Joseph Cordina ended wide.  However, the Saints were in a better shape.  They managed to control play and be adventurous within their opponent’s territory.  The Spurs doubled the score in the 62nd minute through a half volley by Jonathan Micallef who concluded an inviting cross from the right by player-coach Gothard Conti.  Munxar were now demoralised and one minute later a lob by Christopher Cauchi with the goalkeeper out of position ended wide.  In the 66th minute Paul Anthony Attard entered Munxar’s area from the left flank and from his low pass substitute Lawrence Cauchi concluded wide form a good position.  Three minutes later Munxar’s goalie Daniel Curmi blocked a good effort on Gothard Conti.

The score became 3-0 on 70 minutes with a goal scored by Paul Anthony Attard following a personal action.  The same Attard entered the area minutes later but his cross was cleared from the goalmouth by Joseph Agius before Christopher Cauchi could place in goal.  Goalie Curmi once again denied the Saints from scoring in the 76th minute when he blocked on Daniel Micallef.  In the 80th minute the Spurs increased the score through a low close ranged cross by Gothard Conti following another move on the left by Paul Anthony Attard.  The Saints sealed the issue two minutes later through another goal by Paul Anthony Attard, who placed into an empty goal a pass by substitute Lawrence Cauchi.
