Oratory Youths registered their second win in the campaign in their match against bottom placed Gharb Rangers. This was the last match of the fourth day of the campaign, where Gharb were aiming to obtain a victory to reach the same Oratory on the table, while the Youths needed points to reduce their gap from the top positions. At the end Oratory obtained a comfortable win where the protagonist was undoubtedly veteran striker Dione Lautier who scored the three goals of the match. Lautier’s brace scored in the space of two minutes around the half hour of play paved the way for Oratory’s win as the Rangers never managed to recover. With the points obtained the Youths move to the third spot on the table together with Zebbug Rovers and Munxar Falcons. Gharb seemed more aggressive during the early stages and were dangerous in the 2nd minute through a long ranged shot by Andrew Said that was neutralized by goalie Franklin Vella. In the 7th minute a shot by Roy Vella missed the target. The Youths replied one minute later through an attempt by Dione Lautier that ended just wide. Oratory started to share more play and in the 13th minute Marvin Grech concluded weak and goalie John Scerri saved without difficulty. Seconds later Joseph Grech took advantage of a loose ball in Gharb’s area but his shot was blocked in corner. In the 26th minute a shot by Gharb’s Christian Farrugia ended just wide. Oratory opened the score on 28 minutes. Francesco Cini unmarked Dione Lautier just outside the area and the latter passed between two defenders and placed in goal with a low shot. The Rangers were shocked and two minutes later the Youths doubled the score through a fine header by the same Lautier following a cross from the left flank by Francesco Cini. One minute later Lautier could have registered a personal hat-trick but he concluded badly from an ideal position following a pass by Andrew Zammit. Seven minutes from the break Oratory’s Joseph Grech had a good angled shot following a fast break that was neutralized by goalie Scerri. After the break Oratory maintained superiority. In the 52nd minute Dione Lautier hit weak from a corner kick by Francesco Cini and from the rebound Joseph Grech’s shot was blocked by the defense. On the hour of play Francesco Cini headed wide from a cross by Joshua Cassar. Two minutes later Gharb replied with a direct free kick by Roy Vella that was saved in corner by goalie Franklin Vella. Gharb’s Christian Farrugia went close to reduce the score on 66 minutes but his low shot ended wide. Four minutes later Oratory’s substitute George Caruana took advantage of misunderstanding between Gharb’s goalie and his defenders but had his attempt cleared off the line by Andrew Said. However, Oratory managed to increase the score and sealed the issue on 77 minutes. Once again it was Dione Lautier who entered the area and placed easily in goal with a low shot to register a personal hat-trick. Seconds from the final whistle the Youths could have scored a fourth goal but Francesco Cini incredibly concluded wide following a cross from the right by substitute Derek Bugeja.
