Sannat Lions and Ghajnsielem shared the spoils in a draw of two goals in a well contested match that left the final score uncertain until the final whistle.  This was also the first draw registered in the campaign.  The match was characterised by a number of mistakes by the strikers of the two sides and ironically the two goals that decided the issue arrived during a period where the opponent was expressing some superiority.  At the end the final score is just as both Sannat and Ghajnsielem produced good play and a number of scoring opportunities.  Ghajnsielem fielded recent signing Glenn Cefai (ex-Qala SJ) at the heart of the defense, while Sannat had Mario Azzopardi missing due to suspension.

The Blacks saw more of the ball during the first stages of the match and on 7 minutes a good effort by Thiago Dos Santos missed the target.  Sannat replied one minute later through a good move by John Camilleri, but the striker hesitated as he entered the area and had his effort blocked in corner.  In the 14th minute Ghajnsielem lost a good scoring opportunity when Errol Grima released Kenneth Mercieca in the area but the latter lobbed incredibly wide with an open goal at his mercy.  Five minute later a direct free kick by Rodrigo Cariaga ended just wide and in the 23rd minute Sannat went very close to scoring.  Fernando de Andrade entered the area from the left flank and from his cross a header by John Camilleri was cleared off the fatal line by Ferdinando Apap.  From the rebound the same Camilleri incredibly headed wide in front of an open goal.  The Blacks were again dangerous in the 36th minute when Dos Santos released Joe Attard but the latter concluded wide as goalie Paul Galea went out of his goal in an attempt to block the danger.  On 41 minutes Sannat’s goalie Paul Galea deflected in corner an angled shot by Thiago Dos Santos and one minute later the same goalkeeper blocked a close ranged attempt by Kenneth Mercieca following a cross by Errol Grima.  The Blacks were punished for the missed chances and opened the score one minute from the break.  Jason Portelli released Sabri Rais in the area and the latter placed in goal with a low shot that ended out of reach of goalie Grech.

The Lions controlled play after the resumption and in the 49th minute they were dangerous through a shot by Fernando de Andrade that was neutralized by goalie Joseph Grech.  In the 56th minute goalie Joseph Grech saved in two attempts and effort by Fernando de Andrade following a solo effort and less than a minute later Sannat went again close to scoring but Nikolai Filipov incredibly concluded over the crossbar from close distance.  In the 66th minute a long ranged shot by Jason Portelli ended just wide.  Six minutes later Sannat’s John Camilleri entered the area from the right flank, his low cross was partially saved by goalie Grech but Sabri Rais’ attempt from the rebound was cleared off the line by Ferdinando Apap.  As happened during the first period, the team that lost some many chances was punished and Ghajnsielem leveled the score in the 74th minute.  Sannat’s goalie Paul Galea punched with difficulty a long ranged strike by Thiago Dos Santos and Brian Meilak was well placed on the edge of the area and placed in goal with a first timer.  Four minutes later the Blacks were again dangerous through a long ranged shot by the same Meilak that ended wide and in an immediate reply by Sannat Sabri Rais shot high from a good position following a move by Filipov.  On 83 minutes Sabri Rais’ header from a corner kick by Jason Portelli was saved by goalie Grech and in the following action Sannat’s goalie Paul Galea blocked in corner an effort by Joe Attard following a solo action.  Until the final whistle the two sides tried to obtain the decisive goal but the respective defensive departments control ed play so that the score remained unchanged.
